Why Catch Basin Repair Matters?

Catch basins are possibly the most important aspect of any parking lot. They direct stormwater away from your pavement. When they fail, the surrounding asphalt collapses, causing potholes, flooding, expensive structural damage and can leave you open to legal issues. Early repair saves thousands in replacement cost and keeps your lot safe.

Common Signs You Need Catch Basin Repair

Sinking pavement

Standing water after rain

Cracked or failed concrete rings/bricks

Potholes forming around the drain

These common signs are often relatively simple fixes that require removal of surrounding surface, identifying the issue inside the catch basin, repairing it and then repaving the surrounding surface. Only after years of neglect do these problems become so severe that a full replacement of the catch basin is necessary. Waiting until that point is not only dangerous but it's financially irresponsible, as you will have double to triple the costs of a simple repair.

Our Process

Inspection & Assessment

This step is done before we give an estimate. We inspect the basin structure, concrete rings or bricks, drainage, and surrounding asphalt.

Excavation & Brick/Ring Repair

Surrounding asphalt or concrete is cut and removed. Concrete rings/bricks are removed or rebuilt as needed.

Relevel, Set, & Reinforce

The structure is realigned, stabilized, and prepped for asphalt or concrete replacement.

Surface Restoration

We replace the asphalt or concrete that was removed during the excavation process, ensuring the water is flowing properly.

FAQ

How do I know if my catch basin needs repair?

Common signs include sinking pavement around the drain, standing water after rain, cracked concrete rings, or potholes forming in a circular shape near the basin. If you notice any of these, the basin structure is likely failing.

What causes a catch basin to fail?

Michigan freeze-thaw cycles, heavy traffic, poor initial installation, or deteriorated concrete rings/bricks can cause the basin to drop or collapse. Once the foundation weakens, the surrounding asphalt quickly breaks apart.

Do you repair the concrete rings/bricks or just the asphalt?

We repair both. MB Asphalt replaces or repairs damaged or collapsed concrete rings, relevels the entire structure, and then restores the surrounding asphalt. We do not cover problems - we fix the underlying cause.

How long does a catch basin repair take?

Most repairs take between 1-2 days, depending on the amount of concrete and asphalt that needs to be replace and the level of damage to the catch basin. Larger commercial basins or full-depth rebuilds may take longer.

Will the area be safe to drive on after repairs?

Yes. We compact the asphalt, level the structure to grade, and make sure the basin is stable and safe to drive over. We'll let you know how long to keep vehicles off the area. Typically, a few hours for asphalt will suffice, while concrete curing times may take upwards of 2-3 days.

How much does catch basin repair cost?

Pricing is heavily dependent on the amount of damage, number of concrete rings that need to be replaced, and the size of the excavation area. Along with our professional opinion MB Asphalt provides multiple options in our estimates so you can choose the one that fits your budget the best.
